Braving the Zoo

I am calling this blog “Hunting at the Zoo”. No, I am not going to the zoo to gun down animals, although…no, I’m good. The title is there because of what it represents; my goals of changing my body and overall health into something I can be proud of and the gym is a zoo to which I need to figure out how to go about all this. There was no easy way to tell my friends and family that I need a change but that is what I am doing. The idea behind this blog is to document for everyone what I am going through, good or bad, and hopefully people can get a laugh at my expense.

This whole “before and after” program was actually my idea and is in a no way a “New Year’s Resolution” quick fix. I just happen to get myself healthy after knee surgery around this time of year. Good timing! The good people at LA Fitness- Stamford are aware of my goals and are solidly behind me, but they are waiting to see if fanboy (me) can get his stuff together in about three months before we all sit and chat. However, my trainer, Flo is as into this as I am and has become my biggest fan and has told me on several occasions that I am now in “trouble” and that “I may not be able to move tomorrow” and “call me Flo-Flo one more time and you’re going off the roof”.

I know you can’t see me right now but I am not grossly overweight (I’m actually not that bad weight wise) and do not have any health problems other than recovering from knee surgery which, really hurt. By the way, next time someone tells you that ACL/Meniscus surgery is no big deal; you tell them I said they are liars, unless they are much bigger than you, in which case just agree with them and mutter under your breath as you walk away. I am doing this because I need to get healthy. I had so much pain in my legs for the last seven plus years. I have finally gotten it fixed and can now really get back to the way I need to be. I’ve done quick fixes to lose weight before and they do work…for a short period and even though I became a “bean pole”, I was miserable and more unhealthy then when I started because my energy was zonked and I was more lethargic than ever. It didn’t take long to gain it back. I’m in a good spot now; I’ve got a great trainer, the will to work and motivation. I’m not only looking to only get healthier but stronger and thinner (which may take a while).

The people at LA Fitness are really great. If you have a question about anything just ask them.

If you don’t know how to use a machine or do an exercise correctly please ask. I don’t want anyone to get hurt because of incorrect procedure.

I’ve got a handful of entries on backlog. I’ll post them after I send out the initial word.

If you’re at the gym and wondering who this yahoo is, I am the jackass who walks backwards on the treadmill, yes, I am that dude. Come over and say hi.

  1. Hey Paulie. I've been working with a trainer 3x week since November. Best $$ I ever spent. I haven't lost any weight yet, but the weights keep going up every week, so I'm doing something right...

  2. I can feel my clothes fitting better and my lifting has gone way up but I haven't dropped too much LBS yet. I do get cracking on the diet on Monday.
