Go Team Go

I was pretty happy with my progress yesterday. I was able to do a 5K in 41:15 my best time ever. I know my legs are getting stronger and my endurance is better. I know it is only a matter of time before I can sustain a good pace for the entire 3.1 miles. Today, I will canoe from work to the gym and lift with Flo and do Abs. Tomorrow I will burrow to the gym and lift with Flo and box for cardio. I haven’t decided if I am going to rest on Saturday or Sunday yet. I have stuff to do on both days. I guess I’ll just have to see how tired I am. I’ll get there one of those two days.

The Olympic hockey has been great. I am enjoying the paths that the four remaining teams have taken. I am hoping to catch the 3rd period (unless I don’t catch the score then I will watch it on DVR) of the USA and Finland on Friday because it starts at 3PM! Slovakia and Canada play at 9:30PM.

Other than that I have paid little attention to the Olympics. There were some instances where I saw curling but other than that I am really disinterested in most of it. Horray, for national pride!

Nothing Clever Here

Yesterday was real good. We upped the weights on all of my exercises a lot. I felt really good and had a lot of energy. I feel like I could have pushed myself more but Flo didn’t want to increase the increase so I wouldn’t hurt myself. I understood. I hope I can keep this energy up! I’ll lift with him on Thursday. Today I will do cardio and abs. My weight is slowly decreasing. I am hoping to hit my goal by the end of May. It’s tough to have firm weight loss goals when I have to do cardio real slow. I wasn’t cleared for sports or side to side motions yet which was a little discouraging but hopefully in April I will be ready to resume those activities.

SWEEP!

Yesterday was long. I did make it to the gym and had a pretty good workout. My legs are sore as I increased the intensity on my leg workout. Today I work with Flo, I’m sure he’s got something terrible planned for me. I’m really waiting for the weather to get a little warmer and nicer because I will add a cardio trip down to the beach to my workout regimen. If I can keep this up I will easily be in the best shape of my life.

I am still trying to figure out curling. Every time I put on the TV it’s on. Instead of turning it off and doing something productive I am become memorized in the event. Early last week I was marveling at the fact the US guy looked just like McGee from NCIS. Sadly, I heard he has been benched because he is horrible and misses big shots. I didn’t know there was “choking” in curling. I heard he was referred to as the Bill Buckner of curling…ouch.

The Axe Murderer

OK. I’m back. I took a week off because I felt like I was repeating myself. I was getting tired of wondering why I wasn’t dropping weight but admiring that I was firming up.

I did have a great last week. I went to the gym every day. Normally I take a day off during the weekend but since I only made the actual gym four times the week before I thought it would be good to push myself a little bit. I am nearing my first weight goal which is 20 lbs. I hold my weight goal from when I started moving around after surgery which is a few months before I started this blog and working with the trainer.

I changed up my diet too. I was having a hard time with the eating five times a day thing. It’s really hard to tell someone who is trying to lose weight that they need to eat more and not less. I was giving myself anxiety about keeping on an eating schedule and trying to be regimented and making sure I am eating 100% correctly. It didn’t work and it took up too much of my time. Here is what I am doing now until I fix up my frame: I eat when I am hungry. I make sure I eat sometime before I work out. I do not eat after 8 pm. I seem to be rocking one big meal and a lot of smaller ones. It allows me some flexibility. I dropped three lbs last week and I actually see new visible muscles in my back and stomach. I’m not saying I could take a punch from Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva but I am saying I am getting there.

Great hockey game last night from the USA and Canada! Nice job by NBC ignoring the event and putting it on MSNBC. Last night was the longest that channel has ever been on in my presence. I think the NHL should take a page from the Olympics and try to cut down on the commercials to keep the pace up. The game last night was 2:30 of great action.

I made it to Madison Square Garden on Saturday with some friends to see the Knicks with Tracy McGrady play the Oklahoma City Thunder and Kevin Durant. The Garden was such a buzz and I got to see the next great player in the NBA play and hit big time shots in Kevin Durant.

Happy Monday.

Jumping the Shark

Wednesday I was snowed in. Other than some shoveling I really just rested and slept and boy did it feel good! I whipped through some backlogged DVR stuff and watched the last few episodes of Heroes, that show has now jumped a few sharks. I was sort of happy the show was over. I’ll be surprised if they bring it back next year.

Thursday I was back in the gym. I did my 5K and did heavy abs. Today I will box. I go back to lifting next week when Flo gets back from vacation. I am thinking about changing the diet. I feel like I am not getting the results I need. My days are too long to cut calories, there has to be a good middle ground but the nice thing is I can see the change. Maybe I will just toss the scale. I go to the knee doctor today. I am hoping he says I can go back to sports. It has been over 6 months.

Snow Dance

I’m here doing my snow dance, believe me it’s not pretty. I got to the gym yesterday and did cardio and abs. Today I will do boxing, step-ups and abs. Tomorrow looks like I will be snowed in, if that happens I’ll just shovel out cars and take that snow and put it where the annoying neighbors cars are. Shoveling is actually a very good workout as long as I don’t slip and hurt myself.

Be safe tomorrow.

Superbowl Food Coma

I was in the gym on Friday and I was doing my boxing thing. Some lady came up to me and asked me if what I was doing was hard. I told her it wasn’t hard but it was tiring and I was “sucking wind”. She looked at me like I had twelve heads. Is “sucking wind” only a Long Island term or something? Should I not use that in this area? I thought it was a universal term, guess not. It’s funny how my “sucking wind” comment was the piece that offended her, not the tall, angry guy hitting a punching bag with everything possible while hurling insults into the air.

The Superbowl was OK. It wasn’t as good as the last few years and it wasn’t bad as some of the years prior to that. I did eat a lot. I did take the fat day thing to its limits and I am paying for it today. My stomach and head are bothering me.
I am all cardio this week. Today I’ll go in a run/jog/walk and do abs. Tuesday I’ll do boxing, step-ups and abs.

Only nine days until pitchers and catchers report to spring training.

Randy Couture has entered my list of people I will always root for.

Happy Monday!

Sleep Walking Elite

Wednesday
Yesterday was long. Wednesdays are always my longest day. I did find myself at the gym for an hour in between work and class. I tried to cut more time off my 5K but I just didn’t have the energy. I did it in about 43 minutes, fixing the speed and incline as the time went on. I wasn’t thrilled with my results but I did finish the 5K. I’ll go back and do it again either Friday or Sunday.

Thursday
Yesterday was much better. I had a little more energy and got through my crazy shoulder/back/arms workout with only puking up a little blood (I cleaned it up). I am a little sore today but that’s OK. I was really awake until the last 20 minutes of class last night and mercifully the teacher let us go. I was so thankful too. I am back in the gym today and will do a cardio workout, 5K, boxing, abs since I will be taking Saturday off. Next week I go back to the knee doctor and Flo wants me to ask him if I can really start running and doing side to side motion. If I get clearance it’ll be back on the volleyball court in some capacity. I haven’t really jumped much in a long time so I am sure I will be jittery.

Enjoy the snow this weekend, apparently Jersey is going to get covered and shipped out into the Atlantic somewhere. If anyone in Jersey gets stuck, give me a call and I’ll send out a rescue boat.

Stay Home

I hate this weather. I live in the wrong part of the country to dislike the weather so much. Yesterday was good. I did chest at the gym. Flo is on vacation next week (how dare he!) so I am not going to do weights at all and focus on cardio, legs and abs. I have challenged myself to up my weight loss numbers. I’ll get back to weights starting the week after.

I bought this sweater I am wearing now just before the New Year and it didn’t fit great. I put it on again today and it actually fits perfectly. That was a good ego boost. Wednesday is my longest day of the week. I’ll get to the gym for less than an hour today and just do cardio, I’ll do another 5K and then go to class for the rest of the night.

There was a guy yesterday in the gym, he was all fired up, cursing and whatever. We went up to him to see if he was OK. He told us that his ex-girlfriend was now working out in the same gym as him. He was convinced she did it on purpose and was now going to go workout in the other gym (sounds like a rough breakup). To me that is pretty vindictive. Someone coming to a safe place to ruin someone’s good time is really lousy. Do me a favor and stay home and let someone have their space.
I thought the Lost premiere was really great last night. It takes a lot to keep my attention for three hours without fast forwarding through commercials. Much like every other Lost episode, I was left confused.

Oscar nods came out yesterday. The Oscars are probably my favorite non sporting event. I’d really like to see Up in the Air before the show happens.

Busy Days

Things have been busy over here. I have a lots of school work that is occupying my time. The weeks are starting to fly by. Yesterday I was at the gym and did a really great leg workout, abs too. I did not do cardio. I do not like mixing legs and cardio. I am still apprehensive that I am going to fall if my legs get too tried. I am back in the gym today to work with Flo. I have been really good with the food the last few weeks and I am losing a little weight but I have gotten so much stronger.

I’ve decided to extend my Fat Meal on Sunday so as to go through the entire run time on the Superbowl. It’s a judgment call and I am making it. Sunday is the next day I’ll even get a chance to relax.

I know no one cares, and in fact neither do I, but: Colts 30, Saints 24. I reserve the right to change my mind, especially if Dwight Feeney doesn’t play or in Peyton Manning contracts VD from one of those Miami night girls.
